Vineyards: The Vintage Select combines lots from all of our vineyards to give the truest expression of the character of each vintage in Sonoma County. The Cabernet for the 2019 edition of this wine was sourced from the Star Springs Ranch in Alexander Valley (70%) and our Estate Vineyard (30%) in Dry Creek Valley.

Vineyard: The name To Kalon is whispered in hushed tones among lovers of Cabernet Sauvignon everywhere. To Kalon sits on an alluvial fan deposited by ancient streams that flowed down from the Mayacamas mountains, establishing deep, gravelly, well-draining soils.

Vineyard: Our estate vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, known as “the Vinegrove,” features several different blocks with unique exposures and soil types. The main “swale” in the center was recently field grafted to Grenache on the nearly 30-year old rootstock planted in very fine Laughlin loam. Isolated up in the hills, it is a few degrees cooler than the valley floor, allowing for balance and elegance in our expression of Grenache.

Tasting Notes: 91 points, Wine Spectator. Plush, with creamed plum and cassis notes gliding through easily, backed by light licorice and apple wood accents on the focused finish, with a hint of iron minerality that adds a nice contrast. Drink now through 2028.

Vineyard: Our estate vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, known as the "Vinegrove," is a few hundred feet up from the valley floor, providing respite from the hottest days of summer. The nearly 30-year old vines are planted in fine Laughlin loam soils and are organically farmed. The center swale rolls through several exposures, allowing for balance and elegance in our Grenache. The steep south-southwest facing corner block has the most porous earth and soaks up afternoon sun, creating richly-flavored and densely-structured Cabernet. Petite Sirah receives the first rays of morning sun, but otherwise stays cool in the lowest spot in the vineyard, bolstering acidity and color.

Tasting Notes: Composed of mouth-watering Grenache (aka Cannonau) and inky-colored Petite Sirah (aka Durif), the Riserva di Casa is the most cellar-worthy wine from our estate vineyard. There's solid depth to the violet, blackcurrant, strawberry, and blueberry aromas on the expressive nose of this blend. Polished tannins and a grippy texture uphold those weighty fruit flavors on the palate, wrapped with a firm tension of sweet spice and crushed black rock.

Tasting Notes: An intensely floral, bracingly mineral, and richly textured white blend, it opens with a jasmine-tinged floral earthy nose, before fleshy aspects of nectarine, pear and citrus zest figure onto the palate, boosted by uplifted acidity.

Vineyard: The confluence of three overlapping AVAs at Ceja Farms – Sonoma Coast, Carneros and Sonoma Valley – produces a unique environment that benefits our Grenache Blanc in myriad ways. The ocean breezes through the Petaluma Gap combine with the fog rolling off the northern reaches of the bay to provide a consistently cool climate and long hang time, perfect to retain acidity necessary for a crisp white wine. Unusual for the region, the soil in this block is deep, dark and rich, with volcanic material combining with clay to produce vibrant, expressive flavors.

Vineyard: Spring Hill Ranch sits on a windblown ridge, seven miles from the ocean in the Petaluma Gap, a conduit for cold breezes and fog from the Pacific. Sharing the ranch with a herd of Wagyu and Scottish Highland cattle, the Pinot Noir here is sustainably farmed with natural cover crops of Lupine, crimson clover, California poppy and rye, and a parliament of owls that keep the vineyard clear of pesky rodents. The berries are quite small and yield is often less than one ton per acre, producing concentrated flavors with plenty of depth.

Tasting Notes: Vividly floral and fragrant, with a delicious array of orange blossom, persimmon, dried apricot, and peach pie flavors, this dessert wine is both fresh in acidity and rich in texture. Honeysuckle and a hint of spice linger on the long and deftly balanced finish.

THE GAVEL is a Madeira-style, fortified white dessert wine aged using the solera method. Volume II, of which only 382 bottles were made, marks the second edition to be bottled since beginning our solera process in 2014.

Vineyard: The 30 year-old vines adjacent to our winery in the rugged hills above West Dry Creek are planted in a secluded glen with well-draining, gravelly Laughlin loam soil. At 300 feet elevation, the vineyard enjoys cooler temperatures than the valley floor and is above the fog line on most days, creating the ideal environment for a balanced, elegant expression of pure Grenache.

Vineyard: Star Springs Ranch (formerly Ellis Alden Vineyard) sits at an elevation of 1700 feet along the sun-drenched western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains in the Alexander Valley. Isolated within a sprawling 4,000 acre ranch, the 200 acres of vines enjoy a pristine growing environment, above the fog line and sheltered from wind, frost, and negative pathogens. Our Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a prime hillside spot on the North Knoll with southern exposure that packs the grapes with powerful structure and expressive flavors.

Vineyard: Best known for old vine Zinfandel and new plantings of Rhône varieties, the Dry Creek Valley is fully capable of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon when the right conditions come together at a particular site. When we first laid eyes on the Terrace Block at the Merrill’s Vinegrove adjacent to our winery, we knew we had found such a site. Planted on a steep south-southwest facing hillside a few hundred feet up from the valley floor, the combination of sun exposure, well-draining soil, and slightly cooler temperatures create the perfect storm for richly flavored, densely structured, classic California Cabernet.
